From SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1, there is an alternative.

You can use the phrase "CREATE OR ALTER VIEW".

• If the view doesn't exist, it is CREATEd.

• If the view does exist, it is ALTERed.

However, if you have an earlier version, then you don't have this option.
